How this estimate works

Percentages are applied to the entered base bill. A mandatory service charge and a customer-controlled tip are separate concepts, so the calculator asks for them independently.
Frequently asked questions
Does the split bill calculator add tax?
There is no separate tax field. Use the bill shown after tax, or include a not-yet-added mandatory percentage in the service-charge field and label that assumption within your group.
Why does the rounded group total exceed the exact bill?
Every person's share is rounded upward to the selected unit. The calculator shows that small overage so the group can decide how to handle it.
Is tipping included by default?
No. The default tip rate is zero. Add a tip only when the group chooses to do so and the bill does not already include it.
