Japan Overtime Pay Calculator

Enter your base hourly pay and place each hour in one non-overlapping category. The estimate applies common statutory minimum premium rates so you can compare it with a payslip or work schedule.

Planning estimate only. Payroll results depend on the legal wage base, hours actually classified as statutory overtime, fixed-overtime terms, included allowances, rounding, and any more favorable employment agreement.

How this estimate works

  1. Ordinary statutory overtime uses at least 25% extra pay, modeled as 1.25 times the hourly base.
  2. Statutory holiday work uses at least 35% extra pay, while late-night work adds 25 percentage points, producing a 1.60 multiplier when both classifications apply.
  3. Hours beyond 60 statutory overtime hours in a month use at least a 50% premium; late-night work can raise that combined multiplier to 1.75.

Frequently asked questions

What is the basic overtime premium in Japan?

Statutory overtime generally requires at least a 25% premium, while statutory holiday work generally requires at least a 35% premium.

Does late-night overtime stack with the overtime premium?

Yes. Work from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. adds a late-night premium, so ordinary overtime in that period is commonly modeled at 1.50 times the base.
